22 Covid deaths, 3,058 new cases

There were 22 more Covid-19 fatalities and 3,058 new cases recorded in Thailand over the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Friday morning.

There were 2,599 cases in the general population and 459 among prison inmates.

On Thursday, 4,094 Covid-19 patients were diagnosed recovered and were discharged from hospitals.

Since April 1, around when the third wave of Covid-19 began, there have been 181,919 Covid-19 patients, 148,984 of whom have recovered.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 210,782 Covid-19 cases, 176,410 of whom recovered.

The death toll was at 1,483 in the third wave and 1,577 from the beginning of the pandemic early last year.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration said in the afternoon briefing that of the 22 new fatalities, Bangkok recorded 16 and six fatalities were reported in Nakhon Pathom, Ayutthaya, Chachoengsao, Songkhla, Phrae and Phetchabun.

The 3,058 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours included 2,580 local infections and 19 imported cases. Of the local infections, 2,044 were confirmed at hospitals and 536 via mass testing, plus the 459 infected prison inmates.

Bangkok had the most new cases at 867, while, Samut Prakan logged 239, Samut Sakhon 193, Songkhla 152, Chon Buri 142, Nonthaburi 138, Pattani 95, Pathum Thani 93, Nakhon Pathom 88, Nakhon Si Thammarat 67, Chachoengsao 65 and Prachuap Khiri Khan 50.

As of Thursday, 32,795 people were under treatment for Covid-19 in hospitals, 1,360 seriously ill  and 378 dependent on ventilators.

A total of 7.22 million Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered - 5.25 million first doses and 1.97 million second jabs. Medical personnel performed 215,885 vaccinations on Thursday.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 385,601 in 24 hours to 178.19 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 8,596 to 3.86 million. The United States had the most cases, 34.38 million, up 11,230.
